Last ice season i converted a few of my pike tip ups for walleye and perch.. when out at the ice shack i did notice alot of walleye bites and perch taps happening..So i decided if i was using tip ups for the day i would always have at least one set up for walleye and perch... just in case... Even though i was using big full sized smelts minnows the walleye and perch would still take a stab at it and swim away.. So ya next time they would not be so lucky... Heres how i did it... size 6 octopus Gamagatzu hook and a 2ft chunk of 8lb floro-carbon or line of your choice.. I like floro because it is nearly invisible underwater.. and of course one lively minnow... Take a 2ft piece of florocarbon line and then attach it to the already heavy tip up line then tie the size 6 hook to the other end ,, You can bait it with what ever choice bait you use for walleye or perch. I like using live minnows all most the time of the time, or when its allowed . This has to be one of the deadliest Walleye and perch tip up ice combos you can use! Try it and let me know! One other thing is key to the success is this set up working properly Is your tip up has to be set very lightly so the fish can trigger it with ease with less resistance on the trigger mechanism! Its Like setting a trap trigger lightly ... Best of luck and look i think i see a Tip up Flag up ITS time to RUN!!
