Hey Metal just for your info because I get them mixed up some times. That fish you refered to as a pike is really a chain pickeral. They don't get very big and that one is a good size. I've seen them around 30" but not very often. Thay're called chain pickeral because the markings on it's sides resemble link chain.

I hate to say it but I've never been ice fishing for pike. I have seen these kind of decoys being used. The few times I've been fishing in an area that has pike I've been in a tourney which are usually pan fish. So I spend my free time locating the pannies. Did you make those decoys??

;D That's awesome my Friend!! Sounds like you really enjoyed that battle. That's what it's all about and then to get a bonus prize to boot. I'd make a little plaque, mount those jigs and date it. I know you'll never forget that trip but every time you see it, you'll instantly start dreaming. ;D ;D

OH!! MAAAAAANNN! I am sooooooo jealous! You guys are there ice fishing and the fish are biting. I got no ice in sight. The only way to get ice around here is to make it in the freezer or buy it at the corner store. They're already talking about canceling my first ice tourney in Michigan. Hey catch a couple for me!!!! I headed for my room to cry, you lucky dogs!!!!!

;D Glad to be back. As far as the ice pictures I hope mother nature helps out. So far no ice!! I will not be fishing any tourneys till mid Jan. if everything goes well. If we ever get any local ice I'll get to practice a little. I don't know how well I'll do in the ice picture tourney because I usually only fish for perch, crappies & bluegill/sunnies. Hopefully I'll get lucky and come up with a larger size critter. Metal as far as the vexlars go you're right about knowing your lake, but my problem is I've only been ice fishing for about a year and a half. Once three years ago, nine times two years ago including the North American Championship and zero times last year. And the tourneys I fish are in several states on different lakes. Plus when you have a time frame to deal with you have to know if there's fish around or not. Plus you can get ready for the hit and usually aren't caught napping. Not that I hook every fish that bites.

Hey Metal,
It's been a while. I've been staying busy fishing quite a bit. I got tons of photos to post when I get a chance. I notice some where you were asking about flashers. I use a vexlar. I think it's a fl-18. Great piece of equipment. They're pretty easy to use, exspecially if some one can get you started. You actually can see a fish come rightr to your bait and get ready for the bite. Vexlar is great but there are other companies out there. Larance has a couple of nice machines that have gps buit into them so you can mark your spots. I guess all range from $350. - $600.. So be prepared. Here's a clip from the Ice teams web page:
Printable Version Ice Team Annual 2006 Ice Team Annual
Becoming a ¡®Flasher Person¡¯ Somewhere along the line, many ice anglers new to Vexilars have come to believe that their use is complicated.
Perhaps that¡¯s natural, given that you do have to interpret blips on a flasher display. But it¡¯s easy, and the Vexilar flasher is an indispensable part of the Ice Team system. Keeping with the promise of providing the best instruction is a wonderful new DVD that teaches, among other things, how to use a Vexilar flasher.
¡°There¡¯s a reason Dave Genz is a flasher guy,¡± says Vexilar¡¯s Tom Zenanko. ¡°No matter how cold the weather gets, a Vexilar works every time. You have to keep the battery charged (most problems reported by users, believe it or not, are solved after they charge the battery), but the reliability is legendary.¡±
The new DVD comes free with all ¡®packs,¡¯ including Ultra Pack, Pro Pack and Genz Pack. Total length is almost 4 hours, including all owners¡¯ manuals in PDF form, ice fishing and safety tips from Genz, all the info you need to use a Vexilar flasher like a whiz, and much more¡ªincluding tips from Al Lindner and other open-water pros. ¡ñ Later, BB

There were 95 teams signed up for this tourney, so that means there were 190 ice fishermen. I don't have to many pictures but I'll scrounge some more up[ and post them later. We had to drop out of last week ends tourney due to my partners father in-law being severely ill in the hospital. That's our main concern now. Remember if your rod is bent and the line is tight, you're doin' something right!!

Picked Up a couple Of $$$ and qualified for the 2007 North American Ice Fishing Championship in December on an unannounced lake in Minnesota. We came in with our limit of 5 crappies and 10 bluegill/sunnies. We're on an upward journey boys!!! And "THANKS" for the good luck wishes.

The 2006 championship is this coming week end. My good friend Kevin Riley and his brother are competing in it. Due to lack of ice last year all the qualifiers I entered were canceled. "GOOD LUCK TO MY FRIENDS".

Do you mean real perch eyes? If so that's one up on me, I never heard of using perch eyes. I've used minnow heads before.
