Well i went to the Assiniboine river fishing today it was hot and the water level at the dam was low.So i decided to fish for rock bass and catz.Caught a few small rockbass and one lil tiny 14 inch walleye.caught them on a slip bobber and crawler combo they cant resist it.I love fishing rock bass they are good lil scrappers if your useing lite tackle.I feel they are under rated as a sport fish.

hi again me and Cathunter went fishing and did not to bad for a monday evening fish.we started fishing for northerns Cathunter nailed a few in the creek, and me i got a lot of snags.lol but hell i had a blast.Im learning the pike around these parts like orange ,and not to mention so do alot of other fish around these parts. So we headed back to the assiniboine river again for a few casts.Cathunter knew some nice spots that were a joy to fish, and not just that they were biteing there. It wasnt long after we got our hooks in the water Cathunter nailed into a big flat head=CAT FISH .For me i was happy just catching rock bass and moon eyes.anyways we are off to rivers tomorrow for some nice filets walleyes. ;D

Went fishing for rockbass at river today and did i get a surprise i landed into a nice 4 foot sturgeon. I caught him on a worm and pikerel rig, "what a fish". first thing he did was get air bourne and fight and fight. i had the pleasure of letting him go gently back into the water what a good fight!!!!! one of the best fights on the rod this year i cant wait till i can do that again.

hi i was down at the dam today, fished a 20inch walleye out of the rocks on a tube jig. And noticed their was so many gold eye and mooneye surfaceing just before the dam. It was total fly rod application for sure. To bad i didnt have my fly rod,so i improvised and caught a few hoppers and used a slip bobber.Caught one moon eye it was not a bad fight for the size.BUGZ GOT CRAZY AT DUSK. anyways chow

Walleye are biteing well now that it has gotten colder well in the assiniboine at least. Caught a nice sized flathead last time i went and few nice frying sized walleyes.Really looking foward to going out trout fishing it should be cold enough now to start a frenzy.

May 24 /05.
Out fishing at 700 am Fishing for most of the day again caught a few small catfish. A good fishing friend Cathunter landed into about a 15 pound cat. The river is getting good. A few walleye and sturgeon are staring to bite as well. We stopped in at bower not much happening yet. Then we went to william lake, perch are just staring to bite and a few folks that were fishing for browns said they were biteing catch them a few days earlier. never stayed long i had few bites on the fly rod.

Not a good day of fishing but nice to see the Flat head population still thriveing well caught a lil flat head 5 inches long. ;D hungry lil bugger. Released the lil cat very carefully maybe one day in a few years he will visit me again Hopefully if he gains about 15 pounds.

The Walleye action is getting good here now from what alot of my friends are saying must be the cooler temperatiures activateing them to bite. Cant wait to hit the river for old white eyes. One of my friends caught a 32.5 inch walleye he said it tipped the scale just over 15 pounds so hopefully he puts that one in the book.Or on the wall. I wonder how many people dont actually know that they caught. A trophy fish like that is a priviliage and being the one that caught it even better. ;D

Hey Metal Angler. I'm just wondering where exactly is the dam you are talking about on the assiniboine? And how deep is it there?

howdy Mike Well the dam isnt the deepest part of the river im sure, it sure holds alot of fish in the spring fall and summer. As fo the depth it varys with the amount of rain ect but on average i would say maybe 4-6 ft water at tops not very deep. but it does have a dam good current. When you come into to brandon on 1st street just before you see the bridge you take a right down toward a sign that says Dinsdale Park are you familiar with this? Yep just follow that gravel road to the end their will be a small parking lot and a small scenic picnic area. And if you listen you should hear the rushing water of the dam follow your ears Hey check your messages i will send ya one.
