Sorry Sage, If you've seen my pics then you know for sure food can distract me. ;D As far as what bit the fish in half we don't know. We were drifting small pin fish (about 3-4 inch) for tarpon when the Mangrove snapper took the bait. While I was reeling it in I just felt a heavy tug and you saw the rest. I don't think tarpon can do that. It could have been a shark or spanish mackeral. They are both in the area, I guess I'll never know.

We actually stopped on our way out and caught our own bait using rod and reel. We used a size 4 hook with small peices of squid. We caught pin fish and blue runners. The pins kinda look like a porgy or spot and the blue runners look like baby tuna. We were baiting our rod with these live. Some weighted down on the bottom and others free lining. Basically on the bottom, half way and near the top. The baracudas we mostly caught on a banana jig. Kinda sight fishing. When we saw them we would cast to them and reel it in on top slow. Then when one turned on it you reel as fast as you can. And let me tell you they swim and hit like lighting.

Oh no! I know this is a late reply but they found some of these snake heads in a pond in Maryland near DC. They actually drained the pond and removed all the snake heads. But because they "walk" other ponds were checked and more were found. Last I heard they think they had them under control. There's a marsh by where I live that has snake head fish they look similar but I think they're a different species and no ones making a big stink about it. ;D

The newer 3-D seclusion patterns are great ! You really blend in even if you're on the prowl. I use several patterns depending on the area I'm hunting. Realtree hardwoods, mossy oak break-up, advantage timber,ect... They even sell a pine tree pattern if you're hunting in a pine area. Anyhow, Good Luck!

;D I use a Winchester 30-06 lightweight rifle for deer. I also use a Remington 12 gauge 870 with a Hastings slug barrel. Both scoped. For turkey, birds and bunnies I use the 870 12g. and an 870 20g. remington feather weight with an english stock. As far as a varmit gun right now I use a cheap marlin 22mag. bolt action. I'm presently checking out several varmit guns. A 17, 22-50, 223 and if I remember correctly a 243? I haven't made my mind up yet. A 243 seems a little large. Almost forgot I also use 2 black powder guns. Both 50 cal. Ones a tompson center with a gray lam stock in-line. I also have the Cabelas' rolling block. It uses a 209 primer. Nice gun! Be talkin to ya.

;D They really do look like an odd shaped perch. I was told they were good to eat but I released all that I caught.

Hey Sage, I did try topwater baits right of the bat. The guide said that it would be very productive. Howevery true to my nature for some reason I just don't get hits when I use topwater baits. So after about two hours and one strike later I went to live bait minnows that we netted and stick baits which as you can see worked extreamly well. The minnows were used on a lite weighted hook and flipped to fish we were sighting with an ocassional blind cast to spots that looked like they would produce. And the stick baits all I can say is you know when they hit. Like a train. Usually on a stick bait when you get a strike there's that slight pause like you got stuck on something, But when these boys hit it's instant drag peelin' action. And yes as far as gettin' to go fishing I'm very lucky, as far has catching them I have my share of bad days. But of course You wouldn't know about those days because I wouldn't post them. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

8-)Glad you like the picture. Every couple of fishing trips there has to be a sacrificial fish. This time it was a rainbow. We strip her of a bunch of eggs and tie up a bunch of egg sacks. Not giant sacks but little ones with six or so eggs per sack and then drift these sacks through the current and holes in the streams and creeks. And that's the secret bait, trout eggs. You can't buy or sell them but you can use them. ;D
