Those are called scuds or commonly known as freshwater shrimp a flyfishermens best friend for trout they vary in color greens and light olive colors are common. Trout are generally stuffed full of them, thats what they feed on through out the days/months. And when i go out icefishing for jumbo perch after drilling the hole you sometimes see a few swinning around near the top of the hole. Jumbo Perch feed on them as well. Well really who would give up a shrimp meal would you? ;D

Excuse me sir, that's no perch COMMENTARY
LOUIE STOUT
There's an old saying that every day of fishing adds a day to one's life.
If that's true, Jim Aldrich and Charlie Moon may live to be 150. Aldrich is 81 years young. Moon is 89. And they fish more often than most people half their ages.
However, if the Mishawaka anglers encounter any more excitement than they did on Christiana Lake near Edwardsburg recently, they may have to give some of those days back.
The two gents fish together often, harassing panfish on a number of Michiana lakes. But on this particular day at Christiana, the fish harassed back.
"We were fishing in front of the old dance hall and had already caught some nice bluegills," says Aldrich, whose son Jim is the head football coach at Mishawaka High School. "Charlie was picking up a few perch on red wigglers, so I thought I'd set up a perch rig with a minnow and see if I could get a few more."
A perch rig consists of a bell sinker tied to the end of the line with a couple of hooks baited with minnows and rigged about 3 feet off the bottom. The men were fishing in about 12 feet of water.
Suddenly, Aldrich's 5 1/2-foot light action rod was doubled over and 6-pound Trilene line was zipping off the spool of his Mitchell 300 spinning reel.
"I knew it wasn't a perch," said Aldrich, who fishes a couple of times a week. "I don't know what kept my line from breaking."
Or the hook from giving way. The minnow was baited on a dainty No. 10 gold hook.
To make matters worse, the bail on Aldrich's reel wouldn't stay closed, springing open from the pressure of the fish each time he tried to close it. The fish took so much line that the retired Dodge worker feared it might strip him completely.
Aldrich kept one hand on the bail to keep it closed and began working the fish through the weeds. It took about 30 minutes to get it close enough to see the monster terrorizing his tackle.
Was it big bass? Carp? Pike?
"All I knew it was probably the biggest fish I'd ever caught," he explained. "We had no idea until we got it next to the boat and saw that face."
The broad head and spindly whiskers that emerged from Christiana's tannic waters told the story. It was a catfish, probably a blue cat, that later would push Aldrich's hand-held scales past the 16 1/2-pound mark.
Getting the fish near the boat was only part of the problem.
Charlie managed to get it in the net, but the weight of the big ol' cat was too much for him to lift over the side of his 14 foot Lund.
"That fish hardly fit in the net and it took both of us to pull it into the boat," he laughed.
After pictures were taken and Aldrich skinned it out, his wife Millie fried it up and served it to the residents of the Country Side Nursing home where she works.
Christiana is one of Aldrich's favorite lakes early in the season. He was out there last January and caught 40 nice perch.
But other area lakes are good, too, he says.
"Shavehead Lake is good for bluegills and crappie and Garver can be good, but it hasn't been too hot so far this year," he offered. "Big Pleasant is good for bluegills, Cory Lake has really good perch and bluegills, and you can catch good perch from Finch Lake in about 15 to 20 feet of water."
The best perch fishing, he added, usually comes around June.
"Fishing helps get me out of the house," Aldrich said. "It keeps me busy."
And keeps adding days to his life.

Rich that reminds me of a news broadcast last summer i seen on TV about Asian Carp i think ?DNR were worried about them making there way into lake Ontario. Ya but really those fish were jumping out of the water if you scared them ,all along the shore line was bubbling right below the spill gates of Lake Erie or Ontario.I guess a few reports were about those fish hitting people as they jumped into the air as they get spooked by the boat engine noises. Some of them were a good size wish i could have been there with the fly rod. They kinda resembled a freshwater tarpon to me well at least the shape of the fishes head anyhow. Betcha they would put up a really GREAT fight on the fly rod? ;D

High-flying sturgeon causes havoc GAINESVILLE, Fla., April 25 (UPI) --
A Florida woman suffered serious injuries when a high-flying Gulf sturgeon leaped out of the water and into her fiance's boat.
The fish also did about $1,000 in damage to the boat, the Gainesville Sun reported. Whether the fish survived is unknown.
Dawn Poirier of Kenneth City and Johnston Staples III of St. Petersburg Beach were fishing on the Suwanee River in northern Florida when the 3-foot-long fish struck on Saturday. The impact knocked Poirier off her feet.
Staples headed for shore and a nearby house where the occupants called an ambulance. Poirier suffered a spinal fracture, fractures to bones on her face and shoulder abrasions.
"It's like she slammed into a brick wall," her father, Ed White, said.
The Gulf sturgeon, a large fish covered in bony plates, typically causes one or two injuries in a year, a spokeswoman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission said.

Hey jigger i got a steal of a deal on a sony Digital Cam 4.1 mega pixel @ future shop so now i can take some decent fishing pics for the site. See the whole thing is when buying a digi camera is they always make it seem like a good deal untill you find out it doesnt have internal memory. So be prepared to add on another 50-100 bucks on top of the price of the camera, On a memory card to store your pics kinda like film but better you can reuse it . So try to find one thats on sale and that has internal memory built in like my sony.My sony has a 15mb memory meaning about 20 pics on the camera. Hope that helps ya. Oh ya the price of my Camera which includes software was $98.00 canadian. Wait for about 6 months and get a 6 or 7 mega pixel for the same price as a 4.1 now.

As most of you know and probley heard the old saying "the bigger the tackle or hook the bigger the fish you get!".
Ok this is a poll question kinda like a survey for anyone including guests to vote included
So when fishing do you catch bigger fish when using bigger tackle, lures, baits ects
Whats your opinion? Don't forget to vote so we can all see the outcome.

When i first made my first website i thought makeing money off the web would be easy but i hate to tell you thats not true at all. So heres the truth you can sign up for google adsense if you have a website that has a good amount of traffic already. Adsense generates advertisements on your website or affiliations ads that link to your website pages and they brodcast ads on your site. This way seems to be the best way of makeing a lil cash so far. So when you start out dont expect to make huge amounts a lil extra money will come your way in time. Unless you have a product no one else has or unbeatable prices a large corperation cant match. On the home page of this site at the top you can find out more about google targeted ads if you click on the Get targeted ad banner it will bring you to the Adsense home page where you can read more about adsense and sign up and try it out on your website. However some people boast they have made up to 3000 a day cold cash useing Adsense. click here to get google adsense on your site[/color]

I don't know but the weather is sure mild here for this time a year. How ever that could change very quick. But I sure hope it gets colder soon so it will freeze up the lakes nice and thick for ice season. Nothing worse than worrying about how thick the dam ice is as your ice fishing. Just got to be patient i guess. And make few pairs of ice picks for safety. Check out the ice safety chart on the main Ice fishing board on this site.
