hi PETE and welcome to fishing canada. Now your going to be in for some fun when you goto Newfoundland for your trip. I recommend fishing for the brook trout in the lil ponds along the roads MOST of them have fish. Go out just about a hour before dusk. Or morning. I found a guy could use a fly rod for some action but another good method is a small bobber and a small hook size about a 8 is perfect or a few fly hooks assorted. and worm on a lite combo. The trout seem to be on a clock there, and when you find the feeding time.Your going to have some fun.I remember when i was there the trout in the small ponds and creeks were hungry for worms and thaT was about it.Seriously the trout would feed all of a sudden for about a hour, and you will see the water boiling around you from them surfaceing . so start casting and reeling them in. trust me. And they are so clean and good eating. have fun .i hope this helps. AND IF YOU CATCH LOTS MAKE SURE YOU POST A FEW OF THOSE TROUT ON HERE.LOL TAKE CARE.

As we all know how aggresive the northern pike can be it was proven again on my last outing with Cat hunter. We were fishing Rivers lake catching a few walleyes and perch. As Cathunter was reeling in another bait stealing perch, we watched a 7-10 pound northern engulf the perch he was reeling in.splash chomp!!! that was it.Cat hunter now had both on.Reeling in the big jack, the fish finally noticed that the perch was hooked, lol he spit the perch and hook.I wish i had my video cam for that one.And the teeth marks on that perch were impressive.

SNAP!!!! it boils down to THE LINE .What type of line do you use My self i like STREN i find it the best for all purpose fishing and it has the least memory free and tangle free of most lines i have tested. But if you have a favorite tell us.

Hi Sage, Both fishing rods above recomended are truely classics and you do get the best bang for your buck.Ok I was at Walmart the other day and i was impressed with the South bend company has produced yet another great fishing rod. Its called the black beauty 2 it comes both in spincast and bait caster or closed faced lengths. I bought the bait caster size and this lil rod proved me it worth last spring. I landed some nice Flat head Catz, it battled the 15-28 pounders like nothing. So sage im going to have to saY for the price of 15.99 The black beauty is my choice. It has back bone that ugly stick seems to lack but with the same construction.
